How long have you been in the real estate industry?:
What did you do before becoming an agent?:
Executive Director of a nonprofit that coordinated child abuse investigative interviews for Rockingham County and started the NH statewide network of Child Advocacy Centers.
Why did you choose a career in real estate?:
As the wife of a former navy officer, we had moved frequently and I had always enjoyed the home search, renovation process, and real estate industry.
What is your favorite thing about the industry?:
For a favorable outcome for your client, it takes marketing, negotiating, crisis management, the ability to network with other industry professionals, and so many other skills. I love the diversity of the industry.
What attracted you to Bean Group?:
The ability to “be my own boss” and be self-driven within a technology-driven brokerage.
What areas do you service, and how do you know the region?:
Seacoast NH – I am a NH native and have lived in NH again since 2001 and raised a family here.
What do you consider your biggest accomplishment (personal or professional)?:
We’ll see! Kidding aside, bringing a project through 2.5 years of development to this year’s launch of a 116-unit new construction project.
Outside of work, what are your hobbies and/or what do you do for fun?:
Ski (snow and water), boating, travel, watching my kids play sports!
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve seen during your career in real estate?:
Oh boy: a clown doll in a hoarders home’s attic was super creepy, and one time I had to make a connection for a client to someone who would “cleanse” the house…
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in the business?:
After working new construction for a builder for three years, when his work was complete I had to restart my “resale” business from scratch and reinvent myself in the community. After my kids graduated from high school, I had to find new ways to connect with my sphere since I was no longer president of every sports booster club.
What’s the latest strategy that you’ve added to your business?:
Networking with fellow agents to support the growth of my business!
How many hours a day do you work?:
It varies, but on average about 8 hrs. per day
What’s a challenge that you’ve faced in real estate that you didn’t expect?:
It is true you have to constantly remind friends, family and your sphere that you are a Realtor and they should refer to you. It’s a tricky balance between it feeling obnoxious in “selling” yourself all the time, but you truly have to remind people up to 8 times so that you come to mind first when they think of real estate.
Looking back, is there anything you could have done differently to attain success in real estate sooner?:
Pay more attention to my follow up of past clients.
What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in real estate?:
Find a mentor who you connect with.
