We recently sat down with one of Bean Group’s top performing agents, Barbara Dunkle, and asked her about her experience working in the real estate business.
How long have you been in the real estate industry?:
I was first licensed in 1985 when I lived in Michigan.
What did you do before becoming an agent?:
I actually can’t remember a time when I wasn’t involved in real estate. It’s my passion.
Why did you choose a career in real estate?:
Initially, I was intrigued with real estate because I loved seeing beautiful homes, but later my fascination evolved to the psychology of the business.
What is your favorite thing about the industry?:
My favorite thing about real estate is the sense of accomplishment I feel after each transaction.
What attracted you to Bean Group?:
I came to Bean Group because Michael Bean is a visionary and forward-thinking.
What areas do you service, and how do you know the region?:
When I moved here, I lived in North Hampton and later moved to Rye, and now I reside in New Castle. Portsmouth and its surrounding towns in the Seacoast became my focus after living in these various locations.
What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?:
I am recognized as a luxury realtor in the seacoast based on my reputation, discretion, experience, and ability to work with clients and understand their needs.
Outside of work, what are your hobbies and/or what do you do for fun?:
In my free time, I love to experiment with plant-based recipes, garden in my yard, and practice gyrotonics.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve seen during your career in real estate?:
Unusual is a relative term and I have certainly seen it all!
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in the business?:
The greatest challenge I have faced is dealing with inexperienced and dishonest agents.
What’s the latest strategy that you’ve added to your business?:
My strategy is and always has been to invest in my product and service.
How many hours a day do you work?:
With today’s technology, I find myself working my own schedule, which means some days are more demanding than others.
What’s a challenge that you’ve faced in real estate that you didn’t expect?:
I am constantly disappointed by the lack of professionalism and dishonesty with other agents.
Looking back, is there anything you could have done differently to attain success in real estate sooner?:
There are no mistakes in life, only lessons. I am successful today because of the challenges I faced along the way.
What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in real estate?:
Be sure to get properly trained and find a seasoned agent to mentor you.
