We recently sat down with one of Bean Group’s top performing agents, Joe Leddy, and asked him about his experience working in the real estate business.
How long have you been in the real estate industry?:
What did you do before becoming an agent?:
Staffing and recruiting, management, sales training.
Why did you choose a career in real estate?:
I’ve always been interested in real estate and liked the flexibility, no financial ceiling, and the freedom it offered along with working for myself.
What is your favorite thing about the industry?:
Helping buyers and sellers get what they want and getting them to the finish line satisfied and happy.
What attracted you to Bean Group?:
Michael’s rugged good looks and Adam’s flowing auburn hair.
What areas do you service, and how do you know the region?:
The Seacoast area of southern NH and ME. I grew up in the area and moved to Boston for college and returned several years later because I love the area.
What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?:
Raising 3 children and having a successful career in real estate. When I first met Michael Bean there was only Julie and Adam with the company. I saw Michael’s vision and knew it was a winner so I joined the team. I had a 2-year-old daughter at home and my wife was pregnant with twin boys. “Hmm, let’s take a job with no benefits and 100% commission.” That sounds like a good idea! It all paid off though. It’s amazing what you’re capable of when you have no choice but to succeed.
Outside of work, what are your hobbies and/or what do you do for fun?:
I love spending time with my family and friends on the boat, by the pool, skiing, or on the golf course.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve seen during your career in real estate?:
To find my seller passed out drunk on the couch when I came in for a showing. I had no idea I had the strength to move his 6’6” lifeless body to the master bedroom… and the showing happened! Needless to say, the buyers were unable to view the master bedroom that day.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in the business?:
Difficult and unappreciative clients.
What’s the latest strategy that you’ve added to your business?:
Exploring more lead generating options as well as expanding my reach and contact with my current client base and sphere of influence. I am also more selective with whom I do business to avoid the challenges of difficult and unappreciative clients.
How many hours a day do you work?:
I have no idea but I’m sure it’s too many.
What’s a challenge that you’ve faced in real estate that you didn’t expect?:
I’ve learned in real estate to expect the unexpected. Not much surprises me anymore.
Looking back, is there anything you could have done differently to attain success in real estate sooner?:
What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in real estate?:
Buckle up. It’s hard work making it look easy.
